ANET Arista Networks
A superb networking business priced for a decade of near-perfection.
The business
Arista sells high-performance Ethernet switching hardware, software, and related services to hyperscale cloud, AI data-center, enterprise, and campus networking customers. It makes money by winning design slots in demanding networks where reliability, speed, programmability, and operating-system quality matter. The business is excellent, but forecasting data-center architecture and customer buying behavior a decade out is not simple.

Moat & management
| Moat | narrow moat |
| Source | switching costs |
| Trajectory | stable |
| Management | excellent |
Arista's EOS software, engineering reputation, and deep integration with cloud titans create meaningful switching costs and operational trust. The moat is not impregnable because large customers are technically sophisticated, concentrated, and can dual-source or shift spend toward Nvidia, white-box, or in-house alternatives.
Management has compounded value with high returns, strong margins, net cash, and disciplined reinvestment. Buybacks are helpful but not central, and recent valuation makes repurchase discipline important.

⚠ maintenance capex ≈ min(capex, D&A), capped at FCF · Net cash 1.9B credited to value (interest stripped from owner earnings to avoid double-counting). · Price pays for ~25%/yr owner-earnings growth over 15y (reverse DCF); model credits 10%. · Rich vs our conservative value, but a quality business is not a short — stance is WAIT for a better price, not sell.
