GDDY GoDaddy
Sticky domain toll booth priced for zero growth; modest growth plus buybacks should beat that comfortably.
The business
GoDaddy is the world's largest domain registrar and sells recurring subscriptions to small businesses: domain registrations and renewals, hosting, website builders, email/Microsoft 365, security, and commerce/payments tools. Most revenue is prepaid and renews annually, so cash arrives before revenue is recognized. That is why FCF runs well above net income on a nearly capex-free model.

Moat & management
| Moat | narrow moat |
| Source | switching costs |
| Trajectory | stable |
| Management | excellent |
Customers rarely move domains, DNS, email and sites once they work. Together with scale in customer acquisition and brand awareness among micro-businesses, that gives GoDaddy high renewal rates and pricing power on its 20M+ customer base. The domain franchise is durable, but the higher-margin attach products (website builders, hosting) face real competition from Wix, Squarespace, Shopify and AI-native site builders. That keeps the moat narrow rather than wide.
Since the activist-era reset, management has cut costs, expanded margins sharply, and retired about 4% of shares a year with prepaid cash flow. Buybacks look more sensible at today's depressed multiple than they did near the highs, though they use moderate leverage and leave book equity thin.

Key risks
- AI agents and conversational builders could commoditize website creation and weaken GoDaddy's role as the default SMB entry point
- Pricing-power limits: aggressive renewal price increases and upsell tactics could raise churn and invite regulatory or ICANN scrutiny
- Debt-funded buybacks with thin or negative equity leave little cushion if a recession hits small-business formation
Catalysts
- Airo AI tools raising attach rates and ARPU across the existing base
- Continued buybacks at a high-single-digit FCF yield compounding per-share owner earnings
