PH Parker Hannifin
Wonderful niche compounder with switching-cost moat — the price, not the business, is the problem.
The business
Parker sells hundreds of thousands of niche motion-and-control components — hydraulics, pneumatics, seals, filtration, and (post-Meggitt) aerospace systems — across every industrial end market. Components get designed into customers' machines and aircraft, and once qualified, Parker captures decades of high-margin replacement and aftermarket demand. It makes money through pricing power on small-ticket, mission-critical parts plus relentless margin improvement via its 'Win Strategy' operating system.

Moat & management
| Moat | narrow moat |
| Source | switching costs |
| Trajectory | stable |
| Management | excellent |
Design-in economics: the cost of requalifying a seal or hydraulic valve is enormous relative to the part's price, so customers rarely switch — reinforced in aerospace by certification walls. Add unmatched niche scale (no competitor spans as many product lines/markets) and distribution reach. It's not a consumer monopoly, but returns (15%+ ROIC with 0.86 stability) show the moat reliably holds.
Textbook owner-operators: Win Strategy has doubled margins over two decades, Meggitt/CLARCOR/LORD bought at sensible prices, net debt/EBITDA kept at 1.4x, 60+ consecutive years of dividend increases, and a shrinking share count. They reinvest at high returns and act like owners.

- Industrial recession cuts volumes across highly cyclical end markets
- Valuation risk: at ~30x owner earnings, any growth disappointment re-rates the multiple sharply
- Margin gains from Win Strategy are largely harvested; future growth must come organically
Catalysts
- Aerospace OEM ramp plus high-margin aftermarket annuity
- Bolt-on M&A at Parker's historically accretive returns
- Ongoing buybacks and dividend growth on a shrinking share count
